This small group Jordan tour takes you some of the most popular attractions of this Middle Eastern country such as Petra and Jerash, giving you a unique opportunity to take in Jordan's rich history, culture, cuisine and its rugged beauty. The Jordan tour starts in the capital city of Amman, exploring its imposing 'Desert Castles' located on its ancient trade routes. We'll then head out on a city tour, exploring downtown Amman on foot, enjoying the tastes of falafel and hummus, before learning some basic Arabic phrases to use throughout the tour.
We'll then head to Jerash - one of the most well preserved Roman sites in the Middle East. A hike to the towering Aljoun Castle is also on the agenda as we come face to face with Bronze Age Dolmens before spending the night with a local Jordanian family, eating and enjoying their company as we gain insight into their daily lifestyle. We'll reluctantly say goodbye to our Jordanian hosts as we make our way to the Roman Mosaics at Madaba, which provides us with spectacular views of Jericho and Israel from Mt. Nebo, before we head to the Dead Sea to stay in a 4-star hotel and swimming (or rather floating) in its extremely salty waters.
From the Dead Sea, a short hike takes us to the lowest nature reserve on the planet - Wadi Mujib - situated over 400 metres below sea level. Once we're here, we'll visit the Crusader Castle at Shobak before we make our way to the highlight of our Jordan tour - the rose-red lost city of Petra.
In Petra, we'll enjoy a guided tour before having some free time to explore independently. A hike to the Monastery and the High Palace of Sacrifice is always a treat before we say goodbye and head out into the desert terrain of Wadi Rum, spending the night with the local bedouins in a camp set against its towering cliffs. Once morning arrives, we'll head out on a jeep safari over Wadi Rum's sand dunes and underneath its rock bridges before we spend time with a local Bedouin shepherd, getting to grips with their nomadic way of life. We'll have lunch in the desert before we head back to the capital of Amman for coffee, a sheesha and even a game of backgammon, as we reminisce about our time in this beautiful country.
This Jordan tour connects well with our Egypt and Israel tours, and can also be run privately at any time if our group departures don't work for you or you would like to customise the itinerary a little, perhaps adding on some time by the Red Sea in Aqaba.
