Wadi Rum is a valley cut into the sandstone and granite rock in southwest Jordan. It is the largest ‘Wadi’ in Jordan. There is only one road into Wadi Rum, which runs off of the Desert Highway, 42km north of Aqaba.
Wadi Rum is one the most spectacular natural environments in the Middle East. A visit to Wadi Rum is the highlight of many people’s trips to Jordan. The giant Sandstone and Granite Jebels rise up to 800m from the Desert floor. The rocky landscape at Wadi Rum has been weathered over millennia into bulbous domes and weird ridges. The sheer bulk of the mountains leaves many visitors awe stricken. Some of the mountains have vertical, smooth flanks others seem scarred and distorted, almost dripping and melting under the burning suns rays.
Wadi Rum has been inhabited by many cultures since prehistoric times. These cultures included the Nabatean people (famous for their capital city at Petra) The Nabatean people left their mark at Wadi Rum in the form of rock paintings and graffiti.
Whilst visiting Wadi Rum with us, you have the option to take an afternoon jeep safari through the stunning scenery, seeing more of the sheer cliffs and bizarre rock formations.
We also have an overnight stay at a Bedouin camp available for guests, where you can either sleep in the Bedouin tents or outside under the stars if you prefer. Here you will enjoy the Bedouins’ hospitality and be provided with traditional tea and food.
Wadi Rum is included on all of our trips into Jordan.
