After breakfast, we gather for a quick pre-tour briefing before heading out for a tour of Giza and Saqqara. Giza, established around 4600 years ago, served as a burial ground for Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops). Khufu, the son of Sneferu, was often described as a tyrant and, driven by pride, sought to construct a tomb that would surpass all others. The Great Pyramid of Khufu, standing at 500 feet tall and covering 750 feet at its base, is a monumental feat of engineering, made from massive stone blocks encased in a layer of hard limestone. Over the years, much of this limestone casing has been removed, revealing the inner block structure. Alongside Khufu’s pyramid stand the smaller pyramids of Khafre (Chephren) and Menkaure (Mycerinus), creating a stunning vista as they rise out of the desert. You’ll have the opportunity to explore one of these pyramids (although tickets are limited, so availability cannot be guaranteed) and enjoy a camel ride. Nearby, the enigmatic Sphinx stands guard, having watched over the land for millennia. We will also offer a guided tour around the Sphinx, followed by some free time for you to wander and capture photos.
Next, we head to Saqqara, located 25 kilometres south of Cairo. Dominating the area is the Step Pyramid of Djoser (Zoser), built 4700 years ago, which is considered the first step in the evolution of pyramid construction. The entire 7-kilometer stretch of desert at Saqqara is rich with pyramids, temples, and tombs, and we’ll have ample time to explore them while learning about the fascinating history of pyramid construction in ancient Egypt.

After breakfast, we set out on our tour of Cairo. Established in 969 AD by Gohar, a commander of the Fatimid army, El Kahera (Cairo) quickly became Egypt's capital. Over time, additions such as the El Azhar mosque, the Islamic University, and the defensive walls and citadel built by Saladin in 1179 have ensured Cairo's status as the country's main city. The 16-year reign of Ismail (1830-1895) brought significant growth and modernization, with the development of areas like Heliopolis, Dokki, and Roda, as well as the construction of gardens, opera houses, grand hotels, and wide, tree-lined boulevards. Further urban expansion following the revolution has made Cairo one of the largest cities in the world. Today, it is a lively metropolis of over 20 million people, offering a unique blend of the modern and the historic, with a rich cultural diversity, all while serving as a gateway to Egypt’s ancient past.
Your tour includes a visit to the Egyptian Museum (which features an extensive collection of artifacts from Egypt's history, including the famous King Tutankhamun exhibit), the Citadel (a complex of mosques and palaces offering a stunning view of the city), and the Khan al Khalili bazaar (a labyrinthine market that provides a glimpse into Cairo’s past and a chance to purchase a souvenir).
To end the day, we enjoy a dinner cruise along the River Nile. The evening will include a performance by local Sufi dancers and belly dancers as part of the meal experience.
