Hurghada was once little more than a small fishing village; it is now one of the Red Sea’s premier resorts. Hurghada stretches for more than 35km along the banks of the Red Sea. The town now boasts over 248,000 inhabitants, and is divided in 3 areas: Sekella – a fairly modest Hotel area, El Korra Road – the most modern part of Hurghada and El Dahar (Downtown) is the oldest part where the bus station and bazaar are located.
Guests can chose from the best 5-star hotels to simple guesthouses, this ensures that every type of visitor is catered for. The town centre is home to many restaurants, bars and café’s as well as the traditional mosques and bazaars. The newly opened Hurghada Marina Boulevard is also home to over 80 shops, 7 bars and 15 restaurants ranging from Thai to continental, fish and chips to sushi and many more.
For the ‘shopaholics’ among us, there are plenty of retail opportunities in Hurghada. You can buy souvenirs from the many shops that spread along the beach front or why not try some haggling at the bazaar in El Dahar (Downtown) Hurghada. If you are looking for brand names and other high quality products then you should head for the new marina.
Hurghada is probably most famous for having some of the world’s most impressive “underwater gardens”, thus attracting divers from all over the world. If you prefer to keep your feet dry, there is also the opportunity to see the coral life from the comfort of a glass bottom boat. Many other aquatic activities are also available here such as windsurfing, kiting, sailing, snorkelling and deep-sea fishing.
