Our day begins with a visit to the awe-inspiring Pyramids and Sphinx at Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. While at the Pyramids, we enjoy a brief camel ride—great fun for the whole family and an ideal photo opportunity. We then head into central Cairo to explore the Egyptian Museum, home to a remarkable collection of ancient artefacts, mummies, and the renowned Tutankhamun exhibit, complete with his iconic golden funerary mask. In the evening, we board the overnight sleeper train to Aswan (approximately 12 hours, private twin cabins).

We arrive in Aswan by mid-morning. The River Nile is especially scenic here, and we begin with a boat tour to the stunning island temple of Philae. This magnificent temple was relocated following the creation of Lake Nasser. During school term, we’ll visit a local school, where you can participate in a lively and informal English/Arabic language exchange with children of a similar age. Later in the day, there will be an opportunity to enjoy a traditional Nubian meal.

Early this morning, there is an option to join a tour to witness the sunrise over the remarkable temples of Ramses II at Abu Simbel. These impressive temples were meticulously dismantled and reconstructed, stone by stone, to protect them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. If you decide not to join the Abu Simbel excursion, your morning is free to explore Aswan’s lively and vibrant bazaar or unwind at the hotel. Later, we’ll board our traditional felucca sailboat and begin our journey along the Nile. We’ll enjoy a memorable night sleeping on the sailboat’s deck, looked after by our warm and welcoming Nubian crew. Throughout the voyage, clean toilets and showers are accessible on our support boat, which meets up with the felucca periodically. (There is also an option to upgrade to a hotel stay instead of spending the night on the felucca.)

After breakfast, we continue our leisurely sail along the Nile, taking in the beautiful scenery as it drifts by. We then proceed to Luxor, where we check into our hotel located directly beside the Nile. The afternoon is free to unwind at the hotel or to head out and discover the sights and sounds of this captivating town.

This morning, you have the opportunity to embark on a hot air balloon flight at sunrise over the west bank of the Nile. Our tour today will take us to the West Bank, where we will explore the ancient Pharaonic tombs in the Valley of the Kings, followed by a visit to the fascinating temple dedicated to Queen Hatshepsut, where we will uncover the intriguing details of her reign. In the afternoon, you can enjoy some leisure time at your hotel or perhaps discover more of Luxor town. You may wish to take another felucca ride on the Nile to Banana Island, or visit the unusual Mummification Museum.

This morning, we explore one of Egypt's largest and most remarkable landmarks, the Karnak Temple, renowned for its expansive temples, elegant obelisks, towering statues, and numerous columned halls. The afternoon is at leisure in Luxor, after which we will transfer to the station for the sleeper train back to Cairo (approximately 9 hours). Alternatively, you can choose to upgrade one or both train journeys to internal flights if preferred.

Upon returning to Cairo, we embark on a brief tour to discover the city. We visit the historic mosque and museum at the Citadel, which also provides a stunning view of the city. We then explore the bustling Khan-el-Khalili bazaar, where you can enjoy some bargaining and souvenir shopping. A stop at a traditional Koshari restaurant offers a delightful lunch, and later in the evening, we will enjoy a delicious farewell dinner to bid farewell to your local guide and fellow travellers.
