Misr (Egypt) is mentioned numerous times in the Surah's of the Quran and the country's Muslim heritage has led the capital city, Cairo, to become known as the 'City of a thousand minarets'. Our Muslim Heritage tour aims to take you on a journey in the footsteps of the descendants of the Prophet Mohammed, visiting significant mosques and listening to teaching from holy Imam's along the way.
The tour begins in Cairo where we concentrate our tours on some of the Muslim worlds most important Mosques such as the Al Azhar Mosque in Cairo which is regarded as the country's most important Muslim centre. In Cairo we also include visits to other Mosques, the mighty Citadel and the Egyptian Museum where we can see some of the treasures of Ancient Egypt.
Following 4 nights in Cairo we head north, to the Mediterranean city of Alexandria where we visit the el Morsi Abu el Abass Mosque. The area surrounding the Mosque has many other sites of Islamic significance and you have the remainder of the day to explore the area. In the evening, be sure to sample some of Alexandria's excellent seafood!
Returning to Cairo, we take a domestic flight south, to the ancient city of Luxor where we have an extensive tour of Luxor Temple and the Abu Haggag Mosque. Our guide will explain how the Abu Haggag Mosque came to be located in such a usual position - on top of Luxor Temple! Whilst in Luxor we have an additional optional tour available to visit the famous west bank of Luxor we you can see the Valley of the Kings among other sites.
Before returning to Cairo, where our tour ends, we visit Luxor's Taib Mosque, where we have an afternoon lecture from a holy Imam.

Hotel Gala Dinners
Many of Egypt's hotels and Nile cruise boats arrange a very special gala dinner with entertainment in the evening on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Payment for these is often optional on Christmas Eve (24 Dec) but may be compulsory on New Year's Eve (31 Dec), whether you attend or not. Prices can range from around US$50 to over US$150 per person. Final decisions on prices and whether dinners are compulsory are made relatively close to the time. We aim to always select hotels that make their Gala Dinners optional, though this is is not always possible. Gala dinner prices are therefore not included in our prices above, but will be added to your booking if they become required. More information is available on request.
Seasonal prices for this tour are given below. We can also customise the itinerary to fit your personal requirements. Please contact us for details and prices.
The hotels and accommodations listed below are the ones we most often use on this tour. From time to time we may exchange these for similar properties at the same level. In general, specific hotels cannot be guaranteed on our group tours, but you may select your preferred options if you are booking a tailor-made trip.
