Ideal for those who may already have visited Upper Egypt or done a Nile Cruise, this tour combines a visit to the majestic Pyramids & Sphinx and Egyptian Museum in Cairo and time by the Red Sea, with a full tour through Jordan. We include a jeep safari and overnight Bedouin camp amid the stunning desert scenery of Wadi Rum, a full tour of Petra, a drive up the spectacular King's Highway, a swim in the Dead Sea, and a tour of Roman Jerash.
In Cairo, we begin with a guided tour to the Pyramids and Sphinx, before heading into town to visit the famous Egyptian Museum with its huge array of artefacts, statues, mummies, and of course, the mask and sarcophagi of the pharaoh Tutankhamun.
Leaving Cairo, we head past the Suez Canal into the desert of the Sinai Peninsular and the Red Sea town of Dahab where you can enjoy some snorkelling at the beautiful Blue Hole, with its vast array of coral, fish and sea-life. You also have the chance to climb Mt. Sinai and visit St. Catherine's monastery, before we head north and take the ferry from Nuweiba to Jordan.
Our tour in Jordan starts with a jeep safari in Wadi Rum, surrounded by towering cliffs and strange rock formations. We spend the night in a comfortable Bedouin camp, enjoying their hospitality, food, and sleeping in a traditional tent or under the stars (we use a more basic and remote mobile camp during the summer months and a fixed camp with more facilities and comfort during the winter).
Next we head to Petra, rightly one of the world's most famous ancient sites, where the Nabataean people carved their inacessible city into the cliffs of the beautifully coloured sandstone. As well as a full tour, you have the chance to enjoy the Petra by Candlelight tour in the evening, when the Siq and Treasury are lit up by thousands of candles. We also visit 'Little Petra', and you have an afternoon to re-visit the main site if you wish.
Leaving Petra, we head up the King's Highway to Amman. The road passes through small rural villages, and winds its way up and down many deep Wadis, and we stop en-route to tour the crusader castle at Kerak, the Roman mosaics at Madaba, and to admire the views of the Jordan Valley and into Israel from Mt. Nebo.
Our final tour is a day trip out of Amman to swim in the Dead Sea, and explore the well preserved Roman ruins at Jerash. The tour finishes in Amman.
Note - This tour also runs alongside some of our longer Egypt & Jordan tours and when group numbers are small you may join with travellers from another group (for example doing our Egypt & Jordan Adventure tour). All visits and tours in Jordan are identical.
Dahab is a less developed Red Sea resort perfect for those wishing to get away from the crowds.
Site of Jordan's best preserved Roman ruins, including colonnaded streets and amphitheatre.
Well preserved crusader fortress perch high above the Dead Sea.
Well know for it's many Byzantine mosaics and Greek Orthodox church of St George.
Every year, some of our tours will take place during Ramadan, when adherents of the Muslim faith fast during daylight hours. This short guide explains what to expect during Ramadan.
For every Egypt tour we sell we make a donation to the Dar al Rahman orphange in Cairo, Egypt.
