We next take you on a tour of the city of Cairo, where we visit the Citadel with its collection of mosques and palaces, the world famous Egyptian museum, and finish by exploring the Khan-el-Khalili bazaar. Most departures on this tour spend the first 2 nights in Cairo staying at the
Oberoi Mena House hotel, right at the foot of the pyramids.
Luxury Nile Cruise Boat, Egypt
The overnight sleeper train takes you south to the beautiful town of
Aswan, which is situated beside the cascading waters of the Nile. Here you can relax and watch myriad feluccas sail lazily around the many small islands or experience traditional Egyptian life with a stroll along the mazy streets of the town’s colourful bazaar. We take you on a visit to the lovely island temple of
Philae and you have the option of a tour out to
Abu Simbel, with its remarkable temple to Ramses II, before beginning your cruise down the Nile towards
Luxor.
Surrounded by the sumptuous setting of your luxurious
cruise boat you slowly make your way down river. You can relax on the sun-deck and watch rural Egyptian life go by during the day, before enjoying a variety of cuisines for dinner on board in the evening. En route you will stop at the important temples of
Komombo and
Edfu before finally reaching Luxor. We use cruise boats at the Egyptian 5-star deluxe level, and book upper deck cabins whenever available (no extra supplement).
Spices at the spice market in Cairo, Egypt
In Luxor you take tours to both the East & West banks for the Nile. These include the Pharaonic tombs in the Valleys of the Kings, Queen Hatchepsut's temple, and the colourful temple of Medinat Habu, which really gives you an idea of what Egypt's temples used to look like. On the East bank we visit the temple of Luxor in the middle of town, and the huge temple complex at Karnak.
Our new itinerary on this tour will take the sleeper train from Cairo to Luxor, and then spend 4 nights on board the cruise boat, including 2 days sailing up-river to Aswan (this will give a little more sailing time than the existing itinerary). You then have the option of visiting Abu Simbel from Aswan before taking a short train journey to Luxor. After a fee morning to explore Luxor further, you head to the Red Sea at Hurghada as normal.
From Luxor you travel overland to the Red Sea Riviera resort town of
Hurghada, where you have 4 nights in a 5-star beach resort. You can try some snorkelling, scuba-diving or a glass-bottomed boat trip over the world-famous reefs, take a jeep trip into the desert, visit
St. Paul's Monastery the ancient Roman quarries, or just relax in the hotel and on the beach.
From Hurghada, you follow the Red Sea coast up to the Suez Canal and inland to Cairo where you have a little free time before your tour ends with a transfer to the airport for your flight home. If you wish, you may fly straight home from Hurghada (flights would be with Egypt Air and require a stop-over in Cairo en-route).
An extension to the tour is available to visit the spectacular desert scenery at Wadi Rayan and Wadi Hitan just outside Fayoum, near Cairo, including the '
Valley of the Whales' World Heritage Site where ancient whale fossils are found and displayed on the sand.
