On arrival into Cairo airport we meet you inside the immigration hall, assist you with visa formalities, and then transfer you to your 4-star hotel near the pyramids. The rest of the day is free for you to settle in. If you arrive early in the day, then our local rep can assist you with any travel into Cairo or for a first close-up look at the pyramidsl.
We start today's tour with a visit to one of the world's most famous sites, the 3 main pyramids at Gisa. One of our Egyptologist guides will accompany you and give you a full introduction to the history of pyramid building and these amazing constructions. You'll then visit the nearby Sphinx and learn more about its discovery from under the desert sands. Our next stop is the area called Saqqara, on the outskirts of Cairo. There are numerous pyramids in this region, and we visit Zoser's Step Pyramid which was one of the first pyramids built and you can see here how the design of pyramids evolved.
This morning we head into the centre of Cairo for a guided tour around the Egyptian Museum. This is an amazing museum with a huge collection of Pharaonic relics. You'll see papyrus scrolls, statues and mummies, and of course also be able to view the contents of Tutankhamun's tomb, including the famous golden mask. Other stops in our tour today include the Citadel, a collection of mosques and palaces perched on a hill overlooking the city, the winding narrow streets of Coptic Cairo, and the bustling centre of the Khan-el-Khalili bazaar. In the evening we take to the Nile for a dinner cruise on the river. This features a sumptuous Egyptian buffet meal and traditional entertainment including belly dancers and sufi dancers.
Your time is free today until we transfer you back to the airport for your flight home. As this is a private tour, we can be as flexible with the itinerary as you wish, and extra nights in Cairo can be added as well as further day trips and tours. For example, you could visit the colonial city of Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast, or head into the deserts near Cairo to visit the World Heritage Site of the Valley of the Whales.
