We use this overnight sleeper train on many of our tours in Egypt, including our Cultural Adventures, Family Tours and Classic Journeys. The train travels right through the Nile Valley from Cairo in the north, down to Aswan in the south, and provides an excellent way of joining Upper and Lower Egypt together, without the need and added expense for internal flights and extra hotel nights.
This train is the highest level train available in Egypt and it is comfortable but not luxurious (there is also a cheaper 'sitting train' also available to tourists but the hygiene standards on board are very poor and it is more subject to delays). You have your own private twin berth cabin with seats and fold down beds which the train steward will make up for you in the evening with sheets, blankets and pillows. If you are a single traveller and have paid the single room supplement, then we will provide a single cabin for you.
A light 'airline-style' evening meal and breakfast are served on board, but we also always ensure that we stop at a shop before you board the train so you can buy some extra snacks and drinks for the journey. Most trains also have a club car which has a bar that you can drink at, or take drinks back from to your cabin.
