NILE CRUISEBOATS
Travelling on a cruise boat on the Nile is one of the classic ways to travel through Egypt. The cruises run between Aswan and Luxor, and offer a peaceful way to travel through the Nile Valley, giving you a chance to watch typical Egyptian rural life as you sail along, as well as visit the many famous historical sites and temples in the region.
Unlike many companies, we send our own Egyptologist guides on board the boat with you. This means that you do the sightseeing tours in a small group with travellers and a guide that you know, rather than joining one of the large parties with the rest of the people on the boat. Our guide is also at your service during the cruise to help with any problems with your cabin, dietary requirements at mealtimes, or just to sit and talk about Egypt with you, answering any questions you may have.
A luxury Nile Cruise boat is a superbly appointed, floating, 5-star hotel. The cruise boat has many of the facilities of a normal hotel, including restaurants, bars, shops, a relaxing sun deck and swimming pool. Buffet breakfasts, lunches and evening meals are all included (beverages and bottled water are not included however).
You will have your own en-suite, air-conditioned cabin on board the boat (we book upper deck cabins wherever possible).
The cabins all have large opening windows to enjoy the view of the river and banks while you sail, and some boats also have cabins with their own balconies and sun-loungers (we can't guarantee balconies on our group departures however).
If you are travelling with children, please check our family information page for more information about taking children on board the cruise boats.
There are both 3, 4 and 7 night cruises available on the Nile, starting in either Aswan or Luxor. We use the 4 day/3 night Aswan-Luxor cruise for upgrades to a luxury cruise boat on our tours that include felucca sailboat cruises, and most of our Superior level tours, listed below. The 8 day/7-night cruise visits exactly teh same sites - the extra days are spent re-tracing your route along the river back to your starting point in either Aswan or Luxor.
For our small-group tour departures which include Nile Cruises (see below), we use several different cruise boats on the Nile, all at the Egyptian 5-star deluxe level. Our main boats are the Al Jamila and the Semiramis III. However, depending on availbility and maintenance schedules, we may also use boats such as the Crown Jubilee, Crown Jewel, Princess Sarah and Miss World, as well as the Oberoi Shehryar and Shehrazad.
For private and tailor-made tours, we can also offer other boats, such as the classic Oberoi Philae, the new Oberoi Zahra, or the all-suite Sonesta Star Goddess. Please contact us for details if you have any preferences and we'll send you some options.

Notes:
- As the cruise boats shuttle back and forth on the Nile, with regular breaks for cleaning and maintenance, we can't always guarantee until close to your departure exactly which boat will be in position for your tour. We also sometimes need to change boats at short notice if our group sizes increase and there is not enough availability on the boat we had originally booked. However, we regularly inspect all the boats we use to ensure they all maintain the same high standards.
- For practical reasons on the Nile, the cruise itineraries are subject to slight alterations at short notice while in Egypt.
- Most sailing is done during the day, but during some periods some sailing may be required after dark.
- At busy periods the boat may be required to wait to get through the lock on the Nile at Esna
- When moored, several cruise boats may be required to moor alongside each other. This can restrict views and require clients to cross several boats to reach the shore. Assistance will be provided if required.
- On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the 5 star hotels and cruise boats normally run a very special Gala Dinner. The cost of this is compulsory, whether you attend or not, and is included in the price of our small-group tour departures, and tailor-made quotes.
- During busy periods on tours featuring a 4-night cruise, we sometimes need to use a 5-star hotel in Aswan for your first night, and then to arrange a 3-night cruise.
