Ideal for those who may already have visited Upper Egypt or done a Nile Cruise, this tour combines a visit to the majestic Pyramids & Sphinx at Gisa and Saqqara, with a city tour in Cairo including the Egyptian Museum, Citadel and Coptic Cairo and then a full tour through Jordan. We include a swim in the Dead Sea, a drive down the spectacular King's Highway, a full tour of Petra, and a jeep safari and overnight Bedouin camp amid the stunning desert scenery of Wadi Rum.
In Cairo, we begin with a guided tour to the Pyramids, Sphinx and Saqqara, before heading into town to visit the famous Egyptian Museum with its huge array of artefacts, statues, mummies, and of course, the mask and sarcophagi of the pharaoh Tutankhamun.
Leaving Cairo, we fly to Amman, where your tour begins with a visit of some of Jordan's best historic sites, including Pella and Umm Qais, and the impressive ruins at Jerash, which is considered to be one of the best preserved Roman sites in the Middle East. We also 'swim' in the Dead Sea - an experience not to be missed.
Leaving Amman behind, the historic and scenic King's Highway takes us south through villages and winding up and down many deep Wadis. Along the way, we will make stops to enjoy spectacular views across to Israel from Mt. Nebo. We also make a stop in the town of Madaba to see the incredibly well preserved mosaics and to explore the huge hilltop Crusader Castle at Kerak.
Our next couple of nights are then spent at the 'lost' Nabataean city of Petra, where we enjoy a full day tour, exploring, and learning about the way the tombs and buildings were carved into the mountains, and admiring the many colours in the rocks. We also include a tour of the much less visited site of Little Petra, located close by.
The beautiful desert scenery of Wadi Rum is our next objective with its towering rust coloured rocky 'jebels'. We include a jeep safari through the desert here and an overnight stay in a comfortable Bedouin style camp located against the cliffs right inside the desert reserve.
The tour then returns to Amman driving up the Desert Highway and visiting one of Jordan's 'desert castles' on the way. Finally, we finish with a short tour of the centre of Amman, including its impressive Roman amphitheatre.
