This family holiday in Jordan has been specially designed to combine visits to some of Jordan’s most famous and important historical sites with some more fun and adventurous activities for the children. Jordan is an interesting and beautiful country which offers a good mix of fascinating historical sites, beautiful landscapes and fun activities such as snorkelling in the Red Sea, a desert jeep safari, camel rides, and a dip in the Dead Sea. Group sizes are kept small and we use guides who are used to dealing with children to ensure you get the best experience possible. You can also book this tour privately if you wish. Read more
We meet you at Amman airport and transfer you to your city centre hotel The rest of the day is free for you to settle in and relax.
We head out of Amman today and visit the extensive Roman ruins at Jerash, some of the best preserved in the whole of the Middle East. We time our visit so we see the exciting Chariot races held in traditional Roman costumer. After returning to Amman the rest of the afternoon is free to explore the city, or do an optional visit to the fun and interactive Children's Museum.
Leaving Amman, we drive south along the scenic King's Highway, with stops en-route to see the Roman mosaics at Madaba and explore the walls and tunnels of the huge crusader castle at Kerak. We finish the day at the Dana Nature Reserve.
We have a fairly easy walk this morning through Dana Reserve, learning about the local wildlife and countryside and enjoying the huge valley views. Later we drive to Petra, with a tantalising tour of Little Petra on the way.
The main highlight of the tour happens today, as we tour the fascinating hidden Nabatean city of Petra. This is a great place for children as the scenery is dramatic, the history of its rediscovery fascinating, and its numerous paths and steps great fun to explore. We include a 3-4 hour guided tour, lunch, and plenty of free time to walk up to the High Place of Sacrifice, and the Monastery.
We head back into the desert today and travel by 4x4 jeep and camel-back through the high cliffs and sands of Wadi Rum. We then spend the night sleeping at a Bedouin camp in the desert (during the cold and wet winter months we exchange this camp for an extra night in the hotel in Aqaba).
The pace of the tour slows down today as we make the short drive to Aqaba and have the rest of the day free to relax on the beach or by the pool at a luxury beach resort. An option is available for a boat trip into the Red Sea to try some snorkelling around one of the nearby islands.
We head north again today, and drive up the banks of the Dead Sea back towards Amman. En-route we will stop for a swim in the strange, incredibly salty waters. A fun mud bath can also be taken here. The evening is free for a last farewell meal in Amman.
The tour ends in Amman today, and your time is free until we transfer you to the airport for your flight home.
We use a range of carefully selected hotels on our group departures. If you have specific requests for hotels, please ask for a private or tailor-made tour.
"Thanks for organising such a great trip for us! We all had an amazing time and it really opened our eyes to the country, both ancient and modern. Our guide, Emad Hussain was wonderful – very knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating and willing to put up with four archaeologists (including one Egyptologist) for the 12 days. I’m just downloading my 1200-odd photos now..."
