Syria's tourist infrastructure is not nearly as developed as that in Egypt or Jordan, and it receives far fewer international visitors. As a result the number and standard of hotels is generally lower. However, Syria does feature an excellent and established range of fabulous boutique hotels built around former palaces and merchant houses, that are only just starting to become available in Egypt and Jordan.
If you are travelling on one of our small-group tours, or you have booked one of our set tour itineraries to do privately, then we will let you know the hotels to be used on your tour a couple of weeks before departure. If you have specific requirements for hotels to be used for your holiday, then subject to availability we can always book them, but we will arrange and price the tour as a tailor-made itinerary.
The star ratings given on this website are the official ratings the hotels have received from the local tourism authorities. Within each star rating there are variations however within and between each town, city or area. Overall, you should be prepared for standards to be a little lower than you may expect from the star rating given.
All of our tours have been assigned different 'comfort ratings' to give you an idea of the level of accommodation used. More information about comfort ratings...
Tours that are assigned this comfort rating in Syria will use several 2 or 3-star hotels or lodges and possibly enjoy one or more nights camping out in the desert. We would normally include at least one one higher level hotel at around the 4-star level.
In Syria these tours generally use 3 and 4-star hotels, with at least one night spent in a boutique, heritage style property. One or more nights may also be spent in more basic accommodation or a desert camp.
These tours feature stays in on some of the best 5-star or boutique style hotels available in Syria. The top end boutique hotels will normally not feature swimming pools or as many facilities as more modern hotels, but this is made up for by the character, history and quality of the accommodations.
The level, and number of hotels available varies in different parts of the country. Some notes on our most visited areas are given below:
Amman - As the capital of Syria, Damascus features the widest range and number of hotels in the country, and there are good options available at all levels, including several boutique style hotels suitable for a range of budgets.
Latakia - As Syria's main beach resort, Lattakia has a good number of seaside hotels from 3-star up to deluxe 5-star. There are also interesting hotels located up in the hills overlooking the sea.
Aleppo - Aleppo has a few good modern style hotels, but the main attractions are its historic boutique hotels located close to the central old quarter.
Palmyra - In general the hotels in Palmyra are OK, but nothing to write home about - the highlight of your stay here will be the amazing ancient city, and not the accommodation. There are some decent hotels though, from simple but comfortable 3-star options inside the town to some larger 4 and 5-star options in the desert and around the extensive ruins.
