Note: The following information is provided from our own visits & research, the hotel itself, and our clients' experience of using the hotel.
Introduction:
The Mercure Hotel is a large modern hotel overlooking the Nile set right in the heart of Luxor. The hotel has a good sized heated outdoor pool surrounded by well tended gardens and sun terraces. The hotel offers a wide range of activities and entertainment throughout the day and evening and there are a number of bars and restaurants to choose from as well as a nightclub.
The location, facilities and high levels of service within the hotel make this one of our first choice hotels on all our Standard level small group and private departure tours which include stays in Luxor. We also use it because the hotel is good at letting us store luggage, and use day-use rooms while we are waiting to catch evening trains or flights out of Luxor.
Location:
The hotel is located in the centre of Luxor on the East Bank of the Nile between the Luxor Museum which is only 500 metres away and the Luxor Temple which is only 1 kilometre away. The hotel is just across the road from the Nile and is only a short stroll away from the main shopping area, bazaar and restaurants. Luxor International airport is approximately 10 kilometres away and the train station is around 3 kilometres away.
Accommodation:
 The hotel has 314 rooms located on 6 floors either in the main block with or in a separate garden block. All the rooms have a balcony or terrace and have views of the pool, the gardens or the city of Luxor. Nile view rooms are also available for a small supplement. The rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished and have two twin beds along with en-suite bathroom with shower and bath tub. They are all fully equipped with satellite TV, individually controlled air-conditioning, mini-fridge and telephone. There are electrical sockets in each room for charging 'phones and cameras and hairdryers are available from reception free of charge.
Bars & Restaurants:
There are a wide choice of bars and restaurants in the hotel offering a variety of dining styles and international menus. The main restaurant in the hotel, located on the first floor, is Le Gorna and is open for buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner. It offers a wide range of international and Egyptian dishes and has different themed buffets most evenings. Le Flamboyant is a French a la carte restaurant and is open in the evenings only. The Dakka Italian restaurant which is located right by the pool is open for lunch and dinner and offers both indoor and outdoor dining. There are two restaurants located in the lobby area which are open all day and these are Le Champollion and Le Bistro which serves sandwiches, snacks and pastries.
The main hotel bar is the Sarab bar which is open from 10.00 am until 01.00am and features regular evening entertainment including live bands. It has a large outdoor terrace area at the front of the hotel where you can enjoy drinks or even try the different flavoured Shisha pipes. The hotel also has its own nightclub, the Sabil Disco which is open from 11.00pm until 02.30 am.
Facilities & Services:
There are a range of sports and leisure activities on offer within the hotel including aqua aerobics, volleyball, table tennis and mini golf. There are also has two tennis courts located in the hotel gardens. The library which has a number of books and board games for guests to borrow is located next to the outdoor children’s play area. The hotel has its own shopping arcade with a variety of shops including Egyptian handicrafts, jewellery, papyrus and leather goods as well as a camera shop and a pharmacy. There is regular evening entertainment in the hotel including live bands and karaoke nights.
