16 Saray El Gezira Street, Zamalek, Cairo
Note: The following information is provided from our own visits & research, the hotel itself, and our clients' experience of using the hotel.
This hotel is based around a 19th century palace which was built in 1869 for the opening of the Suez Canal and is set on an island in the River Nile in the centre of Cairo. There are two modern towers set at either end of the original palace building and these are connected by the 6 acres of landscaped gardens that surround the hotel. It is a large hotel with extensive grounds, a large outdoor pool and lots of restaurants, bars and shops within the hotel complex. It is the only hotel in central Cairo to have decent gardens and a ground level pool.
We use the hotel on many of our 'Luxury' rated tours and also suggest it for city centre stays for families with children, as the hotel is very spacious and set in its own secure compound well away from the traffic.
The hotel is located in the heart of Cairo in the Zamalek district. The commercial centre of Cairo and the Egyptian Museum are about a 5 minute taxi ride away and there are restaurants and shops close by. The hotel is approximately 18kms (30-45mins) from Cairo International airport and 10kms from the Pyramids.
The hotel has 12 high speed lifts to take guests to the 1,250 rooms and suites which are all located in the two 20 storey Zamelek and Gezira towers. All rooms are tastefully furnished and have en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, mini-bar, direct dial telephone, hairdryer, private balcony, satellite TV, iron and ironing board, safe and electrical sockets. There are Garden, Pool or Nile View rooms available (Nile view rooms may require a supplement) and there are also non-smoking rooms on request.
There are lots of restaurants, cafes and bars within the hotel offering a wide variety of international menus from Japanese sushi served in the Torii restaurant, English ‘pub grub’ available in Harry’s Pub and Northern Italian cuisine served in the Ristorante Tuscany. There are also two American style restaurants within the hotel, Roy’s Country Kitchen and J W’s Steakhouse. Light meals and snacks are available throughout the day from the Saray Café which serves pastas, pizzas and salads and Waves Snack Bar which is situated right next to the pool. The Garden Promenade Café serves BBQ style food in a unique garden terrace setting and is often a favourite of visitors here.
The Egyptian Nights restaurant is open for dinner only and serves middle eastern food in an authentic Egyptian atmosphere. Entertainment is also available every evening in the Empress Entertainment lounge, the Piano Bar and the Champions Bar which has an outdoor cinema screen showing live soccer games.
The hotel has a heated outdoor pool located in front of the original palace and there is also a childrens pool and play area. The Splash health centre has a gym, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi along with a Spa facility offering a range of health and beauty treatments. There are tennis courts within the hotel grounds and golf, jogging and horse-riding are available nearby.

"The crew were tops! Very knowledgable and helpful in everything and being so down to earth! the layout of the truck alone puts all other overland trucks to shame. I had comments from people on the other tours and they all said they were very jealous of our truck. i have enjoyed my time immensely... would do it all over again!"
